I have always felt jealous of people who talk about their passion. May it be passion for dancing or motorbike or baking. Anything that keeps them going. I have a former boss who dances tango and is passionate about it. She says dancing makes her alive and young. It gives her great joy whenever she’s on the dance floor. Recently, she starts to train for diving. She’s turning 60 years old. Continue reading →
Packing light with kids
If you know me personally, you know that travelling light is something that I’m not very good at. A one-night stay in a hotel means having 1 big luggage, 1 backpack, a laptop bag, kids’ own personal totes that looks more or less like this:
And this is just for a 1-night stay in a hotel. I know right? Continue reading →

Finding the right school
In the Philippines, as long as you have the money, you can basically enroll your child in any school of your choice. Ok, maybe not 100% true, but most of the time. You don’t need to worry being put on a waitlist, assessment is just a formality, schools are not very strict with age limit and tuition fees are somehow manageable. You will definitely find something on your budget and can easily find school that provides the quality of education you want for your kid. So I can’t understand why it’s so difficult in Dubai! WHY?!!?! Continue reading →
Remembering Dad
It’s past 3 am and I was woken up by a bad dream. I’m thinking of happy thoughts so I can go back to sleep. One of my happy thoughts is my dad who is in heaven now. But thinking about him, although they are happy memories, makes me sad.
His 2013 birthday celebration. A year before he went to heaven.
Did you know that he went to heaven on his birthday? We were in the hospital for a week and since he can’t go back home yet, we were thinking of doing a mini celebration together with his nurses. We’re planning to buy cake, balloons, ice cream. Of course, I have to order noodles for long life. But just after 5 am, after telling my sister, Jem, to take a nap and it’s already my ‘shift’ to take care of him, it was the start of my different life. A life without my father. Continue reading →
Al Bahou Family Brunch
Warning: Don’t read this post if you’re hungry!
I’ve prowled online for like two weeks before finding Al Bahou Family Brunch in Moevenpick IBN Battuta Gate. With so many buffet brunches vying for our attention, it easy to get confused which one to go to. And why do I need to research? Friday brunch doesn’t come cheap. I’m looking for one that serves international dishes but won’t make us eat cup noodles for a week since we splurged our budget that weekend. It is also important to find a place where kids can enjoy. Since they have smaller tummies than mom and dad, they are done eating even before we start our appetizer so there should be a supervised area where they can do something else than ask us to finished up and leave. Softouch Spa – Kempinski Mall of the Emirates
I was gifted a voucher at Softouch Spa in Kempinski Mall of the Emirates by my company after organizing a successful conference. And it didn’t take long until I find the time to use it. My body was aching all over because of stress, long driving, carrying my luggage bag, and lack of sleep. And the voucher just came on a perfect time. Continue reading →
Dubai Expat Kids
After reading Life with Baby Kicks’ blog post about kids growing up in Dubai, I thought I will share my own musings raising my children especially my son who is now 9 years old. Cole makes me laugh, cringe and most of the time amuse of his antics and comments. Of course, I can’t help but compare my kids’ life from my own childhood growing up in the Philippines.
I remember that my siblings spent our afternoons playing piko, patintero, chinese garter, rainbow rock, syato. Fancy dining happened only during special occasions and Christmas is a much awaited occasion because I can finally buy Yan Yan. Continue reading →
Bikes n Bites – BoxPark
Bikes n Bites – BoxPark
Have you been to Boxpark?
After visiting St. Mary’s church on Christmas Day, I dragged the whole gang to BoxPark in Al Wasl Road for late lunch. This new ‘pop-up’ mall is made of shipping containers and near City Walk. BoxPark has quirky dining options from around the world in a hip, modern setting appealing to residents who want to experience something different. It has some retails outlets and pocket parks for kids and kids at heart to enjoy.
