Who are you?
I’m Lyn Joy Talag-Cruz, expat in Dubai since 2005. Wife to Gibson and mom to two very happy kids. I work as a full-time HR professional. My dream is to become a healthy, happy and wealthy Dubai expat. Aim high baby!
Why did you start blogging?
You know the feeling that you want to say a lot things but no one listens? Hehe. I love reading lifestyle blogs even of ordinary people and I thought I can share my thing or two. It’s a free world!
I have another blog You Deserve It and although I love writing on that blog, it’s more focused on positivity and law of attraction. It seems weird putting my lifestyle stories there so I’ve decided to have another blog. That’s how Filipina Expat was born.
Are you a writer?
No, and if you are a grammar nazi, please forgive me. I don’t have time to proofread and correct. But who knows? I can be a writer someday, jejeje!
Do you pay for all your visits to restaurants and hotels?
How I wish it’s sponsored. But yes, I pay everything (for now). But if someone wants me to review their place, I’m open to it. But be warned that I will be honest. For sure I will appreciate the invitation but I will give my honest feedback. Honesty is the best policy! Seriously, I value my reputation and my reader’s trust.
How often do you write?
As much as I want to write new post every day, my katawang lupa (physical body) won’t be able to take it. I have a day job, kids to attend to, husband to please (in mysterious ways :)) and side business to handle. So, weekly update is my goal but don’t curse me if I can’t live to that. Tao lang! And remember I have another blog (www.youdeserveit.me) and I have to update that too!
There are some non-english words on your blog, we cannot understand.
Ahhh… those alien words are actually Tagalog or Filipino (why Filipino? isn’t that the people? Yes, actually. But you know like French people speaks French. I’m so bright!) and since I am a proud Pinay, my posts will be peppered with Filipino slangs. Can’t do anything about it. But since I’m nice I will give you a glossary of my frequently used gay tagalog words:
Charing / Charot / Echos – just joking; not true
Bonnga – Fabulous
Karir – something that I worked hard for. It’s like career but in a different context.
How did you make it in Dubai?
Simple, I took a plane bound to Dubai and tada!!! Ok, not funny. Seriously, just like everyone else, I came on visit visa and started with a low-paying job. Due to my skills (naks!) and good personality (double naks!), I was promoted to a higher post. I also changed companies and shifted my career from Admin to Human Resources. Life might have been good to me because I always believe that everyone can make it big. It is your choice to make it happen. Read my other blog if you want more inspiration (www.youdeserveit.me). But please don’t ask for any financial assistance 🙂
Ohh, you’re working in HR. can you help me find a job?
No, sorry. Otherwise my inbox will be flooded with resumes. There are lots of recruitment companies in Dubai where you can register your details. They are really a good way to start.
What’s your dream?
World Peace. And to be a healthy, happy, USD millionaire.
Can you help me start a blog?
As much as I want to, I have so many things in my plate right now that it will already be suicidal to take more. But really, I want to help although take note that I am not a guru here. I have also just started and still learning my way. Don’t worry, I will try to post my blog adventures from time to time. Try to subscribe so you can be updated.
What camera are you using for your photos?
Most of the time, just my iPhone 5s. I’m too lazy to carry a big camera everywhere I go.
Your photos are not really good.
I know, I’m working on it. I don’t have an ‘eye’ for these things and still trying to learn.
How can I get in touch with you?
If you want to promote your blog or business, or just want to say hello, please drop me a mail at
